ILP Participation - "Teacher Tips" (Lynda)

The lynda.com tutorial titled "Teacher Tips" by Aaron Quigley is a great tool for all teacher types. New teachers can learn about ways to use technology to improve their efficiency and effectiveness in the classroom. Experienced teachers can also use the tutorial to modify their existing lesson plans.

The tutorial covers many different online tools such as Prezi, Edmodo, Evernote, and others. However, what I found more interesting were the tips for realistically applying technology to the classroom. The tutorial includes segments like "Funding Classroom Projects" and several tips for finding and sharing lesson plans. Overall, the tutorial has a broad array of topics that users can view and apply in their classroom. Educators can also use the tutorial to guide their students for safe and successful activity online.

The tutorial was especially useful for situations that teachers may not think of until they occur. For example, one section had a walk through for building a class website similar to the assignment we completed in class two weeks ago. The lesson then continues by showcasing a use for the tool such as posting assignments for students to view and complete over Winter Break. The tips for how to utilize the tools in the classroom captured my attention and made the tutorial very effective.

  1. I also chose to complete a Lynda course for ILP #1. Now I'm a huge fan of Lynda.com because it is such an awesome resource. It sounds like this course is very informational so I will have to check it out. I think the information on informational tools would be particularly helpful for me because I don't know much about Edmodo or Evernote. It sounds like this course covered a wide range of topics so taking detailed notes would be helpful to retain all of the information.

  2. I think that this Lynda tutorial is a great example of how people in the same field of study can help one another out in improving what they do. By giving out a basic guideline for how to incorporate technology into classrooms, it gives new teachers the advice on how to do it properly. Rather than just using technology unnecessarily, students will be able to effectively use the technology introduced to them in a productive manner. I also think that the older generation of teachers would be able to benefit from this Lynda. It easily explains how to use these new types of technologies that are arising in today's culture, and this will improve their lesson plans

  4. I also completed a Lynda course for my ILP, but I chose a course that went in-depth about Edmodo. I think the tutorial you chose is really relevant to us as prospective teachers. Which tools do you plan to use in your classroom?

    1. It's hard to narrow down which tools I want to use. Each of the tutorials brings new ideas to light. I really like the idea of having a class website for easy access to news and assignment postings. I also think that there are countless ways to improve student participation and focus with online tools such as video creation, games, and blogs/discussion boards.

  6. I like how you pointed out that the Lynda tutorial realistically applies technology to the classroom. Teaching teachers how to use technology is key in modern society. I like how you realized an important skill for teachers to learn from Lynda is teaching them how their students can upload assignments online. That is really important in the modern world and it saves resources and time by doing so and I think it's important for teachers to realize this. Good job on the project!
